About this page -

This page is designed to provide links and other useful information to myself and other people interested in similar topics. Graphics, Java, etc. are kept to the minimum and, where available, are optional. This page is intended to capture interest through content and will expand. A separate all singing, all dancing page is under development (to be renamed as homepage, this one will become the index). I might even change the colour of this page!

This page will hopefully expand as more links are added. This will be achieved only if people using this page mail me with additional sites. Bookmark this site, if you can't find what you want try a search and then mail me when you find it. Next time you visit there should be a link, unless Terry Pratchett releases another book, in which case there will be a short delay!

Science -

This page will take you to a selection of links to scientific sites for interest, research and reference purposes.

Picture

Teaching -

This will take you to a selection of sites specifically related to teaching issues and sources of information/software. It will hopefully contain sites allowing you to download freeware, shareware and demo's - please abide by their rules. Links to the homepages of schools on the Island are also here (or will be as soon as they have them).

mTropilis -

mTropilis is an object orientated multimedia authoring package. This page will provide some examples and a library of behaviours that may prove useful.

Quicktime VR authoring -

Most people are familiar with the Quicktime movie format developed by Apple. Quicktime VR authoring uses the Apple Authoring Suite to create panoramic movies (imagine standing in the centre of the room and turning round, looking up and down, zooming in and out and being able to click on hotspots for additional actions) and object movies (similar to the former except this time you are outside and move around the object) from individual images e.g. scanned in, digital camera, etc. Examples, sample scripts and useful sites will be available here. Use the e-mail facility at the end of the page if you need help or advice.

Discworld -

First of all Discworld is REAL, admittedly existing only because every probability curve must have a far end. The only link to this world is through the man with the black fedora, TERRY PRATCHETT, who describes life in this strange and magical world (what do you mean there is no such thing as magic - prove it!). Terry has been able to describe this world in so much detail that figures of some of the main Discworld figures are available from Clarecraft, videos of some of the most 'interesting times' from Astrion, pre-dribbled candles for the "young wizard in a hurry" from Waxworks and even beer similar to that available in the Mended Drum (although without the dead rats floating in it) from Wallbro can now be obtained. Click on this link to be either turned into a horrible creature from the dungeon dimensions or find out more about this world.

Isle of Man Sub-Aqua Club -

Click here to have a look at diving around the Isle of Man, even if your not a diver you might find the pretty piccies interesting. There is also a bit on what IOMS-AC has been doing over the last month.

About myself -

Surprisingly I am a science (chemistry) teacher at Queen Elizabeth II high school on the IOM. I coordinate a project that combines the use mTropilis and Quicktime VR authoring. I enjoy reading fantasy and science-fiction books, especially on the Discworld. The rest of my free time (what little there is of it) is spent diving. I haven't any other interests.

My e-mail address isHoward@advsys.co.im (as I am particularly sad you may find an almost instant response if you mail me around midnight - 00:00 GMT)
